NELSON SYNOD

SECOND DAY’S SPEECHES. (Special to “Star.”) NELSON, June. 24. On the second day of the Nelson Diocesan Synod, the Dean of Nelson moved in favour of the collecting of financial help for the preservation of St. Paul’s Cathedral, London. He made a stirring appeal to the artistic and Imperialistic impulses of those present and described in interesting detail the history of the erection and recent subsidence of this monument of the Catholic Church.' The resodution was carried enthusiastically. Canon Kimberley, of Sodden, next moved a resolution re the publication of filthy details of sexual cases and the bad effect on young people particularly. The opinion of Synod was that the Press is usually careful to preserve decency, but that lapses do occasionally occur, and the Minister of Justice is to be asked to see that nothing more of this is allowed. The Bishop pointed out that these abominable things are not normal or really common to the community, and that we are not to allow Press reports to affect our opinion of the moral state of this or any other country.
