Laurie Cadman, the well-known boxef, booked a passage at Tauranga to* Auckland by the IVlanaia. His ticket was collected by a steward before the steamer left Tauranga on 'Thursday night, and his bag was in his cabin. His bunk had not been slept in on the voyage. He may have gone ashore .".gain at Taurmiga, but ms f-ieiiu* have not been advised to that effect.
GISBORNE. SESSIONS ; GISBORNE, June 15
The Supreme Court opened this morning. Judge Ostler was welcomed by the Law Society. The Grand Jury returned a no bill jn the : charge of murder against Thelma Maule, a young woman, employed at the County Hotel, who had given birth to a child without proper attention. True bills were found in all the other cases.
.SLIP ON RAILWAY. DANNEVIRKE: June 15
A slip oc .nrred on Sunday night between Ormondville and Kopua, which dislocated the railway traffic on the Southern Hawke’s Bay section Today. The trouble occurred at the spot where a slip came down some months! back, in a cutting which nas .practjcaliy been one mov e more or less since. Passengers by the express trains had to tranship to-day, causing some, delay, but it is hoped to resume the through traffic to-mor-row. The working of other trams is much incommoded.
DANGER TO SHUNTERS.
DUNEDIN, June 15
A meeting of the Amalgamated So-e.iet.-y of Railway Servants resolved I’.mniinuusly: ‘‘That this meeting of the A.S.R.S. desires to draw the attention of the Government to the increasing number of shunting accidents on the railways. We bei eve that the K e accidents are largely due to bad lighting, and speeding up of services, together with, increased traffic. This is causing congestion in the different yards, whi<-h can no longer with safely to shunters, accommodate the rolling stock. A public commission of inquiry, in our opinion, should be held into the conditions under which shunters are working.” AUCKLAND MOTOR 'BUSES AUCKLAND, June .15.
At the. Supreme Court, the proprietors of the Auckland Omnibus Coy. are moving Io quash the City Council’s new by-law controlling bus trafiic, on the grounds that it is unreasonable. partial and inequitable in operation, oppressive, discloses bad faith, is in restraint of trade, and is ultra vires.
Counsel for applicants (Mr. Meredith), said the bread issue was whether the Council acted bona fide, the Council having an individual interest arising from competition with the tramway service.
