DOMINIONS MINISTER

VISITS TO OVERSEAS.

(“Times” Service.)

LONDON, June 12.

Presiding at a meeting of the Victorian League at the Guildhall. Mr Amery (Dominion Secretary) said the reorganisation, of the Colonial Office would make it easier for the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs to visit those Dominions and deal with matters of interest at first hand.

Tho “Daily Telegraph,” commenting on the Dominion secretaryship, thinks the new arrangement, while offering advantages at present, is unlikely to be perpetuated. The responsibilities of both the Dominions and the Colonial Office are bound to increase until they become too heavy for one man. A complete divorce between the Colonial Office and the Department of State for Dominion Affairs may prove only a matter of time. The “Daily Chronicle” says: We do not think the plan by which the new Secretaryship of State for the Dominions is combined with the Colonial Secretaryship in the hands of a single Minister ought to be construed, for long. It might have been better, from the viewpoint of satisfying Dominion’ sentiment, not to have combined them even temporarily.
