The increase recently granted in the rates of pay of railway engine-drivers, ■firemen, and cleaners 1 was gazetted last week. 'The rates run for engine- ) drivers : First year, 2/3 p-44d per hour to 2/8 38-44 d per hour for the. ninth year; firemen,, first year, ITT 38-44 d per hour, to fourth year 2 1 16-44 d per hour; cleaners. 17 years cf age,’ ‘l/1 8-44 J per hour, up to 22 years and over 3/10 38-44 d per’hour Further provisions include the following: — ‘■Every ’member who is booked off duty for rest at a foreign station fob'any period of not less than eight hours shall as regards-such period Bi deemed to be absent on duty front his headquarters at night for the ’purpose of regulation 67.
