BOSS NOTES

(Our Own Correspondent.) , ROSS, June. 10. Alter a long spell of weather so fine aS almost to lead us to believe that, after all, oiir memories of torrential downpours were only myths, we have had to-day, a slight remindei that rain is still a factor here. It was slight, but sufficient to bring to light long disused “mac’s” and “gamps. To demonstrate that Rossites have still faith in the summer possibilities of their pretty little borough, an organisation has come into being, whose purpose is to provide facilities for athletic games when the football season is over, and young people of both sexes will be casting about for some, thing to play at. The promoters have already enlisted a considerable body of supporters and are hoping'and preparing for more. This organisation has adopted the cognomen of the “Ross Open-Air Amusement Club,” and for its immediate objective has set itself the task of, acquiring a suitable site for a tennis court, croquet lawn, and general playground. If promised support crystallises into hard cash and hard wprk, a beginning is to be made at once. The Borough Council was approached the other day by a deputation of ladies representing a majority of the residents of Ross, and asked to hand over for this purpose a site adjoining the Coronation Hall,, at present leased at .a small annual' rental' for grazing purposes. The Council was sympathetic, and promised to consider the matter, and if the site were fount! suitable after thorough examination, to hand ,it over;. offering an alternative site if unable finally to reach a favourable decision. At a subsequent public meeting presided over by the Mayor, Mr. S. Evans, a general committee was formed, as well as a committee to make arrangements for an inaugural ball. This committee consists of Mesdames Askin (President), Evans, Chapman, Donaldson, O’Donnell, Pethig, and E. Denie. The meeting' was well attended and enthusiastic and this augurs well for the success of the movement.
