UNION AND REFEREES.

(Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, May 21. A special meeting of the Auckland Rugby Referees’ Association was held to-night in connexion with tlie situation that had arisen 'through the voicing of a protest at last week’s meeting of' the Management Committee oi ty’ Auckland Rugb™ Union i against the appointment- of Mr G. Peaice as ret eree in the Marist Old Boys-Graniinar-Old Boys seiiioi’ match last Saturday. A letter conveying the resolutions passed at the meeting of the • Rugby Union Management Committee last'ev-‘ ening was received. -The Union " had .decided to asfe'the Appointments Board to reconsider its- resignation, to - notify all clubs that any 5 complaints aeaihst a referee must be lodged in writing, and that. in future appointments bv the the Board would'be only received’by’the committee instead of being received and confirmed. The other two resolutions carried by the Committee were: “That in cor sequence of our omission to observe the resolution of the committee, dated March 24, 1924, governing complaints against referees, an expression of reglpt" be tendered to the'Referees’ .Associat on from the committee as a whole and ’not from any individual member thereof. “That thp Committee expresses regret to the -Referees’ Association and to Mr Pearce, that the matter should have been discussed under the circumstances.”

Mr H. Cliffe. nresident of the Association. detailed the matters placed before the Union bv the deputation from the Association last night. The following resolutions were carried :—‘‘That the Appointments Board bo requested to continue in office and tliat in the interests o’f Rugby ’ootboll. all referees be requested to take the matches allotted to them on Saturday. That the special meeting stand, adjourned until next Monday evening.” The Appointments Board at a subsequent meeting decided to act in the.' same' spirit as the Referees’ Association and in the interests of the players and the nub’.ic. to. make appointments for Saturday and be guided as to final action by the decision of the Referees’ Association at the adjourned meeting. I INANGAHUA SUB-UNION. At a meeting of the Jnaiigahua. Rugby Sub-Union there were present: Messrs J. B. Disjiciati (chairman); C Barnet, T. living, F. Keating, E. Christiansen, T. Roberts, C. Roberts. R. L. McNabb. Arrangements for the third grade fixture, Shop Assistants- v. R.D.H.S. on . Wednesday week were, left in Mr McNabb’s hands. Messrs Roberts and McNabb will arrange the Primary School match.
