Charlatan jumped a trifle big when going by himself, but over the last three fences he and Whipcord both jumped really well. With 8.1 the Solferino—Droski mare, Ravenna, should be home and tried in the Timaru Cup. \ A figure well-known to the racing fraternity, “Davey’’- Stratfhan, died at the Christchurch Hospital on Monday. At a recent meeting of the Westport Jockey Club, Mr- Slee (secretary) presented a statement of accounts in connection with the recent races. Receipts amounted to £3339 6s 2d, expenditure £2725 16s Bd, leaving a credit balance of £613 9s 6d. The tea-rooms showed a profit of £5B 5s lOd, and race cards £6O 8s 3d. After providing for payment of interest £l6l, Land ‘Board! rents £B7 ss, 'caretaker's salary £B6, late secretary £5O, and Borough rates £4l 12s 4d, the Committee was able to pay 4s in the £ on old accounts, which at the last annual meeting stood at £lOl4. Receipts under all headings showed a considerable increase on any previous year.-find it only wants a few meetings such as the last to put the Club on a very satisfactory footing. AMALGAMATION PROPOSALS. WESTLAND AND KUMARA CLUBS. Under date of April 23, the Secretary of the New Zealand Racing Conference has written to the Westland Racing Club :— “I have to notify you that at a meeting of the Dates Committee of the N.Z. Racing Conference, held on 17th inst., the following resolution was passed: — The Dates Committee recommends to the Conference the amalgamation of the following Clubs: —Kumara . Racing Club to amalgamate with the .AVestland Racing Club, to race on the Westland Racing Club’s racecourse, and to have four days’ racing, and that the Clubs affected be notified of this recommendation, and invited to submit, to the Dates Committee prior to the next meeting of the Conference their respective views upon the a inalgamation proposed . “Kindly bring this important matter before your Club as soon as possible, and advise me of its views upon the amalgamation proposed in order that they may be submitted to the Dates Committee prior to the next meeting of the Conference, which will be held early in July next.”
