AMUSEMENTS

OPERrk HOUSE. A picture that will re-kindle the fires of love and make the heart grow fonder, is John M. Stahl’s production, “Why Men Leave Home,’’ to be shown at the Opera House to-night for the last time. Miss Maggie Foster, one of the most distinguished oif J. C. Williamson’s vaudeville artists will appear on Friday, in conjunction, with the picture programme. The type of violinist which carries the strongest appeal as a rule, is that which embodies a musical soul, a wide scope of expression, and skilful bowing, combined with a taste for popular melody. If this is what the patrons of the Opera House want, well their most extravagant desires will be realised when Miss Maggie Foster makes her appearance in Greymouth on Friday. “Tiger Rose,” played two consecutive years on Broadway, a veritable success, to which thousands flocked, attracted by the little dynamo that is Lenore Ulric. It will play here on Friday, and is a Warner Brothers’ classic of the screen. NEW FOLLIES. Lee Smith’s “New Follies” presented their second and final entertainment in the Town Hall last evening, when there was a good and appreciative audience. As on the company’s first appearance, the programme was well varied, containing operatic numbers, ballads, and the ever-popular ragtime. The pianoforte and violin sections by miss Jeanette and Mr Jack Warner respectively came as a welcome addition to the usual variety programme. The bright, crisp programme was con eluded by an amusing comedy, which sent the audience home satisfied! with the fare provided by the New Follies.
