CALEDONIAN SOCIETY. The annual meeting of the Grey Caledonian Society was held in the Oddfellows’ Hall last evening, when a a large attendance of members was presided over by 'the Chief, Mr O. McLean.
The annual report disclosed a most satisfactory condition of affairs. The membership stands at 210. The balance sheet showed gross receipts £75 6s 9d and expenditure £62 8s lOd, balance in hand £l2 17s lid, liabilities nil. The question of office-bearers and - committees for 1925 resulted as follows : —Chief, Mr O. McLean (reelected), chieftains, Messrs A. Armstrong, W. Cochrane, E. Hay, N. B. McCallum, D. McKay, J. S. Ross, T. Tennent. Committee—Messrs R. Bush, C. Miller, J. McLean, C. McQueen, and J. Paton; treasurer, D. Tennent (re-elected); secretary, J. G. Hambleton (re-elected); official piper, E. Hay. Ladies’ Committee —Mesdames D. Tennent (convener)) Bush, Clark, Drake Duncan, Cochrane, J. Hambleton, P. Hambleton, McKay, McLauchlan, McLean, J. McLean, Mclndoe, H. McGlashan, Graham, Kilpatrick, Miller, Pound, Paton, Stewart, and Miss J. Tennent. It was decided to resume the monthly Inglesides next March. It was decided to form a glee club, under the baton of Mr T. Tennent. After business had been completed a programme of dancing and musical itms was given and refreshments dispensed. CHAUTAUQUA. The local committee of the,New Zealand Chautauqua Association met yesterday afternoon. Mr F. A. Kitchingham presided. The chief business of the meeting was to present a balance sheet for the past season. This disclosed total receipts £328 10s sd, made up as follows :—Sale of season tickets £216 11s ; day sales £lll 9s sd; and total expenditure £266 14s 6d, made up as follows: —Guarantee £lBO, Hall rent £22 10s, .amusement tax £26 14s 7d, advertising., etc. £3O 4s 6d, piano hire, furnishings, and petties £7 5s sd, leaving a balance of £6l 15s lid. It will be remembered that the committee decided to allocate 75 per cent, of its profits to the Swimming Baths Fund. Of £6l 15s lid, the amount due would be £46 7s. The Committee decided to increase the sum to £5O, which will leave a balance in hand of £ll 15s lid.
It was stated that the season tickets worked out at 1/10 per entertainment. With regard to next year’s Chautauqua, it was reported that a full guarantee was arranged, in addition to which upwards of 150 had signed orders for £1 worth of tickets for the session, so that the success of the 1925 season was assured.
Votes of thanks were accorded to Messrs J. C. Saunders (hon. treasurer) and G. D. Smart and Miss K. Cornwall (joint hon. secretaries) for their able assistance rendered to the committee.
