BULLER NOTES

(Own Correspondent.) WESTPORT, September 11. The Rio Claro, ujnder London ownership, took aboard 800 tons of bunker coal and sailed yesterdaymorning for Makitea, where she loads phosphates 'for Sweden. Millerton Mine is having another idle day to-day. A shortage of wagons is stated to be the cause. The Westport Coal Company is having additional bins erected at Granity capable of holding 1000' tons. This should afford some relief during shipping shortages. As an idle day means loss of production by 650 men, there is evidently room for improving the local management of the industry. In the final match at Nelson, the Buller Ladies’ Hockey Team was defeated for the Pope Shield, by Nelson by two goals to nil. Buller did not

win a match’ right through the tournament. It is only fair to state, however, ‘that quite a number who would have been chosen to make the trip iwere not available, as they had to sit at the teadhers’ (examinations, which were taking place during the time of the tournament. Returning home to-day, Buller stop at Murchison to play a match with the local team. The Rover Football Club expects to go on- tour shortly, visiting Nelson, and may go as far as Wellington. place to-day . in St. Canice’s Church, of Miss Alice O’Callaghan, daughter of Mrs O’Callaghan, of the Royal Hotel, Westport, to Detective Florence Culloty, of Hamilton.
