Thornton’s eleven in the first innings made 461/6 declared, (Holmes not out 202, Hendren 101, Rhodes 56). The South Africans in the second innings made 45 for 0. Holmes batted 306 minutes, bitting twenty fours and giving 'two chances. With Hendren, he added 170." The scoring wa,s monotonous against the tired bowling. Hendren, who gave two chances, hit one six and nine fours. Rhodes and Holmes added 122 for the fifth wicket in . seventy-five minutes. Hendren completed two thousand runs for the season. Eight bowlers were tried, Nourse taking two for fifty-one. . ,
