AUSTRALIAN PRODUCTS
NEW GERMAN ENTERPRISE: (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) LONDON, March 7. The view held, in most importing circles' in London is that the real reason for Germany’s embargo on the importation of frozen meat from Australia is not due to rinderpest as stated, but to political motives, in ■ the hope of inducing a relaxation of the i Commonwealth restrictions regarding German products and nationals. Permits, however, were obtained for the Opawa and Whakatane to discharge shipments at Hamburg. An interesting. sidelight on the possible future course of trade be tween the two countries is furnished by the fact that inquiries are being conducted in London by a huge company with headquarters in Germany, regarding the possibilities of obtaining supplies of commodities from Australia direct, instead of through British importers. It is understood that Baron Von Eckhardstein is prominently associated with the company, in which Switzerland, Sweden Italy, and England are represented. It is known as the Efha Company. It is stated that the company is prepared 'to take enormous quantities of products from Australia, notably canned dried fruits, and meat, paying cash direct to the producers.
