(Per Press Association.) NO AGENT’S LICENSE. AVELLINGTON, December 7. Several land agents were fined for carrying on business without a license. The Magistrate said if the practice were persisted in, heavy penalties would be enforced in future cases. HICKSON MISSION. DUNEDIN, December 8. The case of a woman suffering from rheumatoid arthritis is regarded as a test case. One doctor said before the Hickson Mission that if the woman walked, he would believe anything. After’’the service on Tuesday she fed herself and walked, across the room. On AA’ednesday she walked for a block and a half from her home and back again. A NOTED CRIMINAL. •AVELLINGTON, December 7. Percy Bellamy, aged 29, who said he was an Australian, charged with assaulting a man, and with other charges, was before the Court to-day. Sub-Inspector Cummings said that accused was a notorious criminal on. the other side. The police would endeavour to get him deported, to Australia. He was remanded to enable the formalities of the Immigration' Department to be complied with. DAIRY CONTROL BOARD. INVERCARGILL, December 7. At a crowded meeting at the following resolutions were carried : That this meeting of representatives of the dairy factories in the AVyndham, Edendale and adjoining districts, the largest and most closely settled dairying area in Southland, approves of the South Island candidates recommended by the Dairy Con,trol Producers’ Committee, andpledges itself to assist in their return, and urges the producers to vote for Messrs Thacker, Waite and Fisher. AVHEAT PRICES INCREASED. . CHRISTCHURCH, December 7. It was reported amongst the grain merchants to-day that an agreement had been come to by the AVheat Board and the representatives of the flourmillers, regarding the price ■ of- the new season’s wheat, which is to be one penny a bushel in advance of last year. On last season’s basis, this would make the new seasons price' as follows:—sale, free on board at closest port, in January, February, March ApiJ 11 and May: —Tuscan. 5s 2d per bushel; Hunters, 5s 4d; Pearl 5s 6d; and an increment of Jsd per bushel per month to these prices for each subsequent month up to and including October. PALMERSTON’S AVAR MEMORIAL. PALMERSTON N., December 7. A war memorial campaign was opened to-night by a rally in ! the Opera House, when the Mayor (Mr F. J. Nathan) announced that the preliminary canvass of leading citizens had yielded the splendid total of over £2500. The memorial is to be a replica of the famous Folkestone statue in bronze and granite, erected at a cost of £lO,OOO, on the spot where eleven million Empire soldiers embarked and disembarked from France during the war. It is estimated the cost, erected in the centre of the Square at Palmerston, will be £5OOO. It is confidently anticipated it will be the finest of its kind in the Dominion.

WAIKINO SHOOTINGS. WAIHI, December 7. An inquest on two schoolboys, Chas. A. Stewart and Kelvyn McLean,- r who were shot at the Wai’kino Schoolhouse on October 19, in connection 'wf'th Which John Higgins is now under arrest, was held this morning, before Coroner Wallmut. After hearing evidence which traversed the story of the tragedy, as already telegraphed, the Coroner returned a verdict that the deceased, / Stewart and Mcl.ean, were shot at Waikino by John Christopher Higgins. It is understood that Hjtggins will be charged at the Police Court in the course of a few days. SUNDAY TRADING. ? CHRISTCHURCH, December 7. At a quarterly meeting of the Christchurch Licensing Committee, the Chairman (Mr Widdowson, S.M.) referred to the convictions which had been obtained against certain hotels. The Committee hoped the police would take the matter of Sunday trading actively in hand, and see that every breach of the Licensing Act was taken notice of, and,. if necessary, brought before the Court. Not only was it necessary for hotel-keepers to observe the law, so far as they were concernel, but non-observance of the law. was so grossly unfair to those hotel-keep-ers who did observe it. It was hoped that there would be a better report placed before the next meeting of the Committee.
