In view of the continuance of influenza, it has been decided that the Greymouth schools shall remain closed all next week.

A Press Association message from Dannevirke states that Southern Hawkes Bay wears a mantle of white. Snow fell for live hours this morning, being the heaviest fall experienced for many years. The prospects are that more will follow. A special committee was set up at the last meeting of the Grey Hospital Board to report to yesterday’s meeting upon the charitable aid cases. Only one case was unfavourably reported upon. The Rev. A. J. .Darnell made a suggestion to the Board that when fresh ration tickets . were being printed, the. blass of rations procurable should be listed on the forms This system operated in Sydney, ho stated, and obviated the practise of securing unnecessary goods in exchange. A second offender for drunkenness was convicted and fined 10/- by Mr F. W. Shallcrass, J.P., at the Magistrate’s Court this morning. Thomas Milot, a third offender, who was con- ’ victed yesterday on a charge of drun- ’ kenness, again appeared before the Court. Senior-Sergeant McCarthy described the-man as a ‘/nuisance.” He had been cadging about the wharves, and seemingly had no intention of seeking work. A term of imprisonment was apparently the only cure for him. Milot, who had nothing to say, was convicted and fined £3, in default one week’s imprisonment.

He asked what the limit was, and what was the position with "regard to the outstanding levies, which, he understood totalled £2lOO. The chairman said that the levies were all payable and would no doubt be handed in during the month. The overdraft would then be completely eliminated.
