-<>. COUNTY COUNCIL (Own Correspondent.) REEB'TON, July 26. The monthly meeting of the Inangahua County Council was held at Reefton yesterday. Present: Crs. McVicar (chairman), Carroli, Watson, .John O’Regan, J. O. Byrne, J. Dick, L. Bell. The Clerk of the AVarden’s Court forwarded application for reduction of rent from the Keep-lt-Dark Mines, Ltd. (in liquidation). —Not entertained. Several ratepayers wrote on the matter of unpaid rates —Resolved that all outstanding revenue be sued for forthwith and that the same be advertised.

The Inangahua Hospital Board wrote regretting being unable to reduce expenditure in view of its present financial position. 'The Secretary of the New Zealand Counties’ Association wrote advising that the conference will be held on August 8, 1925.—Resolved that a further remit be sent to the Counties Association to delete all reference to defaulters’ list in the Act. _ ( The Secretary of the Exhibition Committee, Hokitika , wrote asking what is being done at Reefton in connection with the Exhibition and forwarding plan of same—Resolved to engage space up to £2O. The executive member of the Mam Highways Board wrote on the grouping of Counties into highway districts. —Grouping approved of. The Public Works Department forwarded authority for expenditure of £ for £ grant for rough track to reefs, Alexander River, via McVicar s faun. —Received. The District Engineer of Public Works Department wrote re Coal Creek bridge repairs, that the Department had no funds for the purpose.—The Department to be informed that the Council cannot undertake repairs to

bridge. The Grey Valley Farmers Union wrote drawing attention to road leading to Byrne Bros.’ property at MaW heraiti._Resolved that Mr Perotti s attention be drawn to the culvert. Mr T. Learmont wrote re the fact of several persons passing through, his freehold to gain access to their properties.—Resolved that Dlr Learmont be informed that the Council is not in a position to purchase land for a road. M. Waddell wrote drawing attention to footpath in Dunn Street.—Referred to the Engineer. The reports of the Engineer, Inspector and Sexton were read and received. Cr McVicar moved, Cr Byrne seconded, that the Engineer make a further investigation of a site for cemetery at Ikamatua. —Carried. Cr Carroll i/ioved that if the Golden Coast Dairy Co. cannot otherwise arrange for the removal of boiler, this Council undertake its removal at a price to be arranged by the Engineer. —Seconded by: Cr Bell and carried. Cr O’Regaii moved that the tractor he laid up and the matter of retaining the services of the driver be left m the hands of the Chairman and Engineer. Seconded bv Cr Watson.—Carried. Cr Carroll moved that the Engineer be instructed to attend to streets on south side of Buller Road leading to Victory Street. —Seconded by Cr Dick and carried. Cr O’Regan moved that the Chairman visit Oweka and give reasonable access to Mr 11. Betts’s property at section 5, Block IX.—Seconded by Cr Bell and carried. The Engineer was instructed to repair the road past Mr Sara’s property, Bridge Street, to C. Potter’s residence, Buller Road. The Chairman said that with reference re road to Douglas’s at AVaitaha, Ihe Council would have to exercise the Act and finance it, and get the Public Works Department to construct the road.- —Cr O’Regan moved, Cr Bell seconded, that a letter he sent to Mr Douglas informing him that if he can rinke satisfactory arrangements for acauiring the road the Council will endeavour to get a grant for the work.

—Carried. Cr Dick wanted to know when the two members of the Fire Brigade were going to occupy the brigade room. We pointed out the want of control of th° brigade at the recent fire. Cr Carroll pointed out that quite a number of neonle were not awakened by the bell. Cr Dick moved that the attention of the Captain of the Fire Brigade be called to the fact that the Council has provided sleeping quarters ■for the Brigade and these were not occupied. —Seconded by Or Carorll and carried. 7 Cr Beil drew attention to the anomaly existing in the Impounding Act re freeholders and occupiers of occupation leases. He moved that steps be taken to have the Impounding Act amended. —Seconded by the Chairman. —Carried. Cr O’Regan moved that the Chairman urge on the Minister of Public W'oiks that failing to place a grant on the Estimates for a bridge at Rotokobu, a sum of £3OOO be applied for on a £ for £ basis —Seconded by Cr Beil and curried. Cr Belt asked that access be given io sections 328 and 37, Block XII, Inangahua, Buller Road. The sum of

£5 had already been spent. He moved rhas another £5 be granted. —Seconded by Cr O’Regan and carried. 'i ue Railway Department is to oe asked to repair road from Cionaduii load to Cronadun railway station. The Railway Department is to be asked to re-open road to river-bed ficm old Reefton railway station.

Ci Dick gave notice of motion re standing the appointment of a Works C< mmittee. It was no use as members were not taking any interest in it. Ur Cai roll contended that he had done part, having visited all the town we.i ks.

Ur Carroll referred to the fact that water from, the road was going in to the Golden Point coal mine. He moved that the Engineer be instructed to attend to the drains at a cost not exceeding £3. —Seconded by Ur Dick and cairied.
