MUTINY IN GAOL

NEW YORK, July 24. 0 A telegram from Napanock (Nev ■> York) states that, led by a gian negro, four hundred rioting convicts attacked fifteen unarmed guards ir the mess hall of the institution for defective delinquents during the suppei hour. One inmate and a guard wert killed, and seven guards seriously injured. The gttards grouped in a corner with their backs to the wall and'fought for 3 their lives against a surging wave of 1 enraged men, who hurled stools and crockery. The guards were saved from an overwhelming rush when the institution superintendent ran into the hall with a revolver and subdued the negro, who started the trouble. Thirty murderers and other violent criminals were amongst the convicts who, for several weeks, have been grumbling on the ground of insufficient recreation.
