HOTEL ON FIRE

A WELLINGTON OUTBREAK. (Special to “Star.’’) WELLINGTON, July 26. Shortly after midnight, a fire broke out at the Hotel Cecil, opposite Lambton Station. It appears to have started in the kitchen or pantry and immediately spread to the dining room, which was a mass of flames when the brigade arrived. 'After a struggle, the fire was confined to this portion, the dining room being destroyed, and those adjoining, much damaged. Underneath were bedrooms, which suffered from water. There was no confusion among the guests, but two firemen had narrow escapes from injury. The damage is roughly estimated at £5OOO. The whole building and contents were insured in the Norwich Union. Among those, living in the hotel were several members of Parliament who were hurriedly called from the House to look after their families and belongings.
