“Pioneer” (Brunner). —In 1864, 27 tons ot coal was hewed from Brunner and brought to Greymouth in boats and exported to Nelson by steamer by the late Matthew Baty, who resided for many years at Coal Creek. In 1879, the late Hilar tin Kennedy worked the mines.
