DAVIS CUP
SPANIARDS’ SUCCESS. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) LONDON, June 18. The Davis Cup play in the preliminary at Manchester was in a bad light and on a slippery court. Godfree and Lycett represented Britain, and De Gomar and Flaquer represented Spain. The Spaniards won 6/2, 6/3, 4/6, 6/3. Godfree crashed the ball into the net when well-placed for volleying. His lobs were inaccurate, whereas the Spaniards played well up to the net. The Englishmen improved in the third set by remaining on the base line. BRITAIN OUTED. LONDON, June 19. Spain beat Britain in the Davis Cup preliminary, De Gomar defeating Lycett, 6/4, 6/1, 7/5.
