Kips and sloppy parcels showed a. farthing decline. Others unchanged. COMPANY TO PAY. BRISBANE, June 16. The Supreme Court decided that the Mount Morgan Gold Mining Company is liable to pay income tax on £14,000 received from the sale of gold abroad. The Company contended that the transaction abroad was independent of it; Queensland activities. The Court decided that there were not two businesses one for production and one for the sale of gold, but it was all one business. LATE LIEUT. BENNETT. MELBOURNE, June 16. There was an impressive scene, on the arrival of the Largs Bay with the body of the late Lieut. Bennett. As the vessel moored, the crew lined die decks in man-o-war style and the other ships in port paid homage to the dead airman. The wharf laborers ceased work and doffed their hats as the red ensign was run up- All flags were at half mast. All traffic on the waterfront was suspended as the coffin was borne to Parliament House, where the body will lie in State until Saturday. BETTING AND CHEQUES. MELBOURNE, June 17. The Victorian Bookmakers’ Association tb-day deputationised the Attorney General, Mr. Robinson, asking for an amendment of the law, which, according to the ruling of the Courts, makes bets paid by cheque recoverable by the bettor. Mr. Robinson expressed himself as sympathetic, but he asked the deputation to remember that the other members, of the Government had not had any opportunity of discussing rhe matter. He concluded by saying that it seemed to him, personally, a most improper thing for a man, in full pos session of his senses, when he made a to attempt to recover the money when he lost. He would refer the matter to the Cabinet.
