(Own Correspondent.) HOKITIKA, This Day. The success of the recent A. and P. Show has inspired the settlers of Kokatahi and Koiterangi to organise a winter -hiw In order to do this the settlers li.v' e formed a committee, and have entered into the project most enthusiastically. The show will have close on 200 classes and will embrace produce, poultry, home mdustlies, etc- The date fixed is May 16. Tim. will synchronise with the Winter School here, and the object is to demonstrate to the visiting Professors what can be done in the district. Mr H. Haile, the newly-appointed gardener and custodian of Cass Square, Macandrew Square and other plots, has taken up his duties and has made a, start on Cass Square. A considerable amount of w..'.k has to be done on the Square lefmc the sports meeting on Easter lues lay. The County road grader, with fee County motor lorry as tractor, has .-.leaned up the racing track, but the spoil will require some days to clear. Ihe pavilion has been repaired and painted and now looks fresh and tidy. With a responsible nelson about the grounds vandalism should be prevented.
The Public Library has been vecmvmg attention also. The Town Clerk retired with light heart on “Bank balance” day. Ho had succeeded in getting in sufficient revenue in two days to convert a. large overdraft into a credit balance. The funeral of the late Lilian M. Warwick took place yesterday morning and the funeral of tho late Thomas Devaney in the afternoon. Each was attended by a largo number of friends. The funeral rites at St. Mary’s Church and tho graveside, were conducted by Dr Kennedy.
