PROPOSED FRENCH VISIT. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, April 5. At a meeting of the management committee of the Auckland Rugby Union the chairman reported that after consulting with the New Zealand Union he had endeavoured to get the assistance of the Premier in persuading the French Union to undertake a tour. Mr Potter, M.P., brought the matter to the notice of Mr Massey, with the result that it is understood tho Premier has cabled to the French Government, emphasising tho disappointment that would be felt in New Zealand if the French tour were abagd-Bued. CENTENARY TOURNAMENT. LONDON, April 4. Plans are on foOv to celebrate the centenary of the Rugby game next season by a grand tournament between all the great Rugby-playing countries, find by a match between tho combined stren f gtbs of England and Wales, versus those hf Scotland and Ireland. AMENDED RULES. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, April 6. At a meeting of the local Rugby Union there was a. discussion on tho aine nded rules played by the Auckland Union. Mr Heenan moved that the delegates to tho New Zealand Union be instructed lo recommend it to refuse permission to any Union to play under the modified rules. He objected strongly to the continuance of a system, and contended that the danger from the League, which had frightened Auckland, was exaggerated. Other members supporting him, pointed out that South Africa and New South Wales wore against the alteration, and they had to be considered. Some members did not like the idea of tying the delegates’ hand and an amendment was offered merely disapproving of the amended rule re kicking into touch. It was lost and the motion carried by a largo majority.
