The Kaituna leaves Dunedin oil Monday for Greymouth direct. The Ngahere is expected to leave Onehunga about .Thursday, ’ bringing general cargo to Greymouth. The Opua is expected from Lyttelton about Wednesday. The Joan Craig, from Sydney, is due to reach Greymouth on Monday. The schooner Abermama- has left Sydney with a. part cargo of explosives for Greyniouth. Craig, has left the vessel. Alter having been laid up at Lyttelton for seven months, the steamer Broxton, said to be the largest wooden steamer afloat, has been sold and may be expected to sail shortly for Australia. The vendors are Broxton, Ltd., Christchurch, and the purchaser is Mr. John G. White, a Sydney ship- | ing agent. The Broxton has had a chequered career since her at rival in Australasian waters. She was chartered by the Blackball Coal Company to carry coal from Newcastle to New Zealand ports .and made one trip to Dunedin and another io Lyttelton. On the latter occasion her departure was held up owing to trouble over census returns, the captain having at Jir.d refused to till in the papers. On her return to Newcastle, the vessel was unable to get a cargo owing to the coal shortage. b’or 71 days she lay idle and this was evidently her undoing. as the cost of maintaining the steamer and crew for over two months, during which she did not earn a penny, ran the ship into debt. Part of litis debt was still owing xvlien she arrived c,n her second trip to Lyttelton ami she was later arrested for debt. On September 26th she was sold by public auction to a Christchurch syndicate for £6200. A syndicate was later lormed in Ch listchurch, a private company under the name of Broxton, Ltd. In the securing of freight, however, the new owners were doomed to disappointment. various factors, including the shipping slump, operating against them.
