REASSURING NEWS

SOME INDIANS RESUME.

ORDER PREVAILS.

(Per Press Association.)

AUCKLAND, This Day.

The Auckland “Star” correspondent at Suva writes on February 14th: —“There seems to be'a likelihood of things quietening down. Matters at Lautoka, B.i Labaea and other Indian centres are quiet, but it is the general opinion that there will be no guarantee of peace while the leaders are left at liberty, and their early arrest or deportation is looked for. There are no grounds for alarm for the general safety for all classes and the Nationalists are against the Indians. SUVA, Feb. IS.

“The Indian's are coming in and resuming work. The Municipal Council put on 50 men on Tuesday and many others have resumed elsewhere. All the Indians must be within doors by 7 o’clock and none are allowed in Suva by day without a permit. This has had a very quietening effect. At Nausori and Navua the men are returning to work and everything is reported quiet. There are some who predict a recrudescence of the trouble but the coolies hav e had a good lesson and should give' no more trouble. "WELLINGTON, This Day. The following message, dated 21st February, from the Governor of Fiji, has been received by the Governor-General of New Zealand : “The Indian strikers in Fiji all have returned to work at Suva and Rewa, and complete order prevails. There was no development as regards the northern and western districts.”
