Application for £l5O to purchase section- and • dwelling, situated in Town Belt, and which applicant is at present occupying at a weekly rental of 6s. It was moved by the chairman, seconded by Mr Tennent, that the application be deferred for a month in order to make further enquiries regarding the tenure.— Carried.

Application for £2OO to purchase l-acre section with 6-room-ed dwelling*, situated at Awatuna, the title being held under a miner's right. This application was declined at last meeting*, but was renewed, circumstances detrimental to its recommendation having been altered.' Mr Morgan moved that the application be referred to the Ministerial Board, asking for their ruling on the matter. Seconded by Mr' Tennent and carried. MISCELLANEOUS. Application for £3OO to complete purchase of a grocery and butchery business in Ahaura, repayable at £l2 10s per quarter. Mr Smith moved and Mr Skoglund seconded, that the application be recommended for granting.—Carried. Application t for £SO for furniture. —Moved by Mr McGinley, and seconded by Mr Ring, that the application be granted.— Carried. i

Application for assistance to go in for correspondence course with Banks's College, Christchurch, as preliminary qualification as a surveyor, also £5 5s for text books. Moved by Mr Smith, and seconded by Mr Morgan, that the application be granted-—Carried. Application for 27s 6d a week for four months in order that plicant complete his apprenticeship, which had been interrupted by 2| years' war service. Moved by Mr Tennent, and seconded by Mr Ring, that the application be granted—Carried. Three applications f<jr grants of £3OO, £270 and £IOO to purchase a section and dwelling, were recommended to the director, Wellington, and have received a favourable decision.

An application for £IOO to purchase a share in a business also received a favourable decision.

Application for £SO to purchase furniture. * t Moved by Mr Snrith and seconded by Mr. Morgan that the application be granted.—Carried. Application for sustenance whilst awaiting Defence Depart' ment's decision, re military appointment at Samoa. It was resolved that the matter be left in the hands of the secretary to arranage. The secretary reported the case of a person holding, a position with the Government who had gone on active service without leave of absence. His application for reinstatement had been refused, owing to his breach of the regulations. On the motion of Mr Tennent, seconded by Mr Ring, the secretary's action in laying the whole facts before the Ministerial Board was approved, Mr Tennent stating that it was {heir duty to see that the man was reinstated.

Mr MacKenzie said that they must also see that the man's superannuation was not interfered .with through his period of war service.

The secretary reported that since the last meeting 19 applications for assistance had heen received, 15 of which had heen placed and 4 were in abeyance.
