MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS

A TAME CONTEST. *' ; * _ _____ - ■ • > V* fc CITIZENS’ TICKET RE--8 TURNED. ' g As; we indicated yesterday, very Y scant interest was taken in the municipal elections in Greymouth. i The poll was not a large one, the - votes falling 317 short of what they were at the previous election. The work done by the Returning ’ Officer (Mr F. H. Denton) and his r deputies was worthy of the highest praise. There whs not a single 1 hitch during the day and the re- . turns were announced in good . time. The results of the Charitr able Aid poll were made known about nine and those of f the Borough Council about eleven 5 o’clock. , ; , , i The members of the old Council ■ who sought re-election were all successful in retaining- their seats, t the two vacancies being filled by > Messrs' McGinley and Skoglund. Mr McGinley has had previous experience on the Council, but Mr Skoglund isjnaking his debut as a cbuncßlorTTlie Labour ticket wak i unsuccessful in Securing A seat. The only change ih the Charitable Aid Board was that Mr J. Greaney (Labour) replaced Mr E. J . Smith. The position occupied by Mr W. H. Parfitt in both the Council and the Charitable Aid polls shows that the citizens recognise the valuable yet unostentatious work done by him during the past two years. After the poll had been declared, Messrs Parfitt, Skoglund. * Naylor and. Greaney addressed those present, thanking them for their confidence. Messrs Connelly and*Thomas returned thanks on behalf of the Labour Party. A vote of thanks in the Returning Officer concluded the proceedings.
