SICK AND NEEDY.

GREY HOSPITAL AND C.A. BOARD. The following business, whicl: concluded the Board's .meeting'. took place utter we went to pres.: yesterday:— 3ffr Tennent moved that the daj for the general meeting for tire selection of sites for the erection of an Old Man's Home be Tuesday week. —This was seconded bv Mi McCarthy. Mr McCarthy moved that Messrs Naylor and Tennent be appointed to the Public Health Committee. Mr Irvine moved that the date of burial be advertised at the same time as the death notice of the old people.—Seconded by Mi McCartliy. Mr Tennent moved that the milk contract to the Hospital be immediately cancelled.—This was seconded by Mr Irvine. Mr Tennent said that the milk tender all through was imsatisfactorily earned out. The Secretary asked That a month's notice be given. Mr Tennent stated that he had given his motion. The Chairman then asked that a month's notice be given. Mr Tennent amended hi-; motion, which was earned. It was decided that the Secretary should advertise for tenders for milk up till the end of January. VISITING COMMITTEE'S REPORT. A visiting committee consisting of Messrs E. J. Smith, A. Naylor and J. Tennent visited the Hospital yesterday and found everything satisfactory. The Matron's report was received and approved. The Matron recommended Nurse Braidwood for the Sistersinp rendered vacant by the resignation of Sister Gilhn. it was decided to recommend the Board to appoint Nurse Braidwood to the vacancy. The resignation of Nurse Hymas was received. It was decided to recommend too Board to cancel the policy on the old laundry and take out new policies for the following:—New laundry, say £GOO, at rate 8s 8d per cent.; infectious disease ward, £6OO, furniture, etc £150; total £750, rate 8s dd per cent.; ambulance shed, £IOO, rate 8s 3d per cent.; ambulance, cost £475, 45s per cent. The report of the Visiting Committee was adopted. Moved by Mr Tennent and seconded by Mr Naylor that Nurse Hymas be given a recommendation for her services.—Carried. Mr Naylor moved and Mr Tennent seconded that the recommendation re insurance be agreed to, and that all policies be made to expire on the same date.—Carried. It was resolved, on Ihe motion of Mv Irvine, that a policy of £4OO be taken out on the motor ambulance. MEDICAL SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT. The Medical Superintendent reported as follows : —Number of patients remaining from last month, 80; iiZ males, lb females; number of patients died during* the month, G; 5 males and i female; number of patients discharged during the month, 43; 27 males, 1G females; number of patients admitted during the month, 42, 24 males, 18 females. Number of patients remaining at end of month, 74; 54 males, 20 females. Average patients per day, 84. Average days per patient 20.7. Ages of deaths: 85, 73, 37, 34, 19, and 5 months. The report was received. TREASURER'S REPORT. The Treasurer reported receipts since last meeting to have been £665 16s 2d. The bank overdraft stood at £1435 9s 7d. Mr Irvine brought up the matter of the advertising of funerals where deaths occurred in the Hospital. He stated that at present only the deaths were advertised, and people, especially those living in the country, were at a disadvantage in that they were not aware of the date of the funeral

Dr Usher explained that the custom was to advertise the death l only. , It was moved by Mr McCarthy, 3 seconded by Mr Irvine, that it be left with the Secretary to arrange .- for the advertising of funerals.— ; Carried. i The Secretary was instructed to - draw the attention of the Stock * Inspector at Hokitika to the condition of the dairy under cliscus--5 sion.
