ANGLICAN CHURCH
EPISCOPAL VISIT
TO DIOCESE OF WESTLAND
Bishop Julius arrived hack from his annual episcopal visit to South Westland on Friday last. Altogether the weather proved fairly propitious in spite of some south-westerly squalls, and his Lordship was able to carry out the programme of confirmation and other services arranged for him, without any delay. Unfortunately the Bishop had been suffering throughout from a. very heavy cold, so much so that it was found necessary to make some alterations in what had been arranged for him in the Hokitika parish. Ho preached at Evensong at llimii on Friday evening, and held a private confirmation at the 'Westland Hospital on Saturday afternoon, but the Saturday evening confirmation arranged for St. Andrew’s at Kanieri was cancelled, the candidates and their friends being asked to attend at All Saints’ Church on the Sunday morning. There was a. large number of communicants at all St. Saints at the Corporate Communion on Sunday at S a-in., and at the Choral Eucharist at II a.m. At the latter service the Bishop confirmed twentythree candidates, of whom ten were from Hokitika, five from Kanieri,' three from Woodstock, one from Ilium, two from Blue Spur, and two from the A rah ura. district. Hie Bishop preached a. most inspiring sermon, well calculated to strengthen the enthusiasm and hope in the church folk in these depressingtimes. In fact this was the outstanding feature in all his sermons, and addresses during his visit. On Sunday afternoon he journeyed to Stafford, where he preached at Evensong at 3 p.m., and continued on to K uni am, where in the evening ho held a confirmation at which eleven candidates were presented, returning to Hokitika after the service. On [Monday the Bishop visited St. Amies Diocesan Girls’ Hostel in Hall Street- In the evening he Held a confirmation at St. Columba’s, Koitemngi, where seven candidates were presented. The Koiterangi church people had recent 1 — carried out renovation, both inside and outside the church, and the largo congregation which included several Kokatahi people, greatcly admired the new altar furnishings.
