THE WEEK'S WORK. AN OFFICIAL SUMMARY. (Per Press Association.) i WELLINGTON, July 22. The, following- telegraphic summary of the proceedings of the ■ Imperial War Conference for the week ended July 20th, has been received by the Governor-Genera! from the Secretary of State for the Colonies: —The Imperial War Conference dealt with the question of settlement of exservice men, reaffirming- the principle laid down at the last Conference, in favour of arrangements, by which an intending- emigrant from the United Kingdom may be induced to settle in countries under the British Flag. Ift expressed the opinion that representatives of Dominions in the United Kingdom should keep in closest touch with any new body established by His Majesty's Government, to supervise emigration from the United Kingdom, and that the appointment of a consultative committee not exceeding six members, of which representatives of the Dominions should sit, to advise any such body, would afford the best means of co-opera-tion. The Conference on the motion of ar Joseph Ward, who brought forward the question at the last Conference, also passed! a resolution on the subject of cable communications, em, phasising the need in the highest interests of the Empire for telegraphic rates, being further materially reduced. The resolution was passed. On the subject of Imperial' mineral resources, the Bureau establish,-' ment, of which it was determined at the last Conference, dealing with the number of representatives on a, governing body, and the allocation of expenditure. ■ The Conference discussed the question of giving preference in Government contracts to Empire raw materials. > Temptations to. Dominion troops in England was a, matter also discussed raid opinions were indicated by a resolution passed at last year's Conference, as to the need for action, were repeated. A motion by Mr Hughes, in favour of the establishment ~ r one Imperial Court of Appeal, as a Supreme Tribunal for all applicants, in all parts of the Empire, was discussed. - Other proceedings of the Conference are confidential at present.
