KUMARA NOTES.

lOur Owu Correspcmuein;.] WOUNDED SOLDIERS' FUND A large meeting of ladies connected with the Wounded Soldiers' Fund was held, on Saturday evening in the Town Hall. Mrs. Butler was voted to the chair. A strong committee was formed, of which Mcsdames Sutick and Keech were elected secretary and treasurer, respectively. It was- decided to canvass the town and district in aid of the fund, for the purpose of which Mr. Keech had kindly consented to the use of his motor car, and Mrs. H. Johnson her horse and trap. HEALTH IMPROVED. I am pleased to report that Mr. Williams, one of the contractors for the repairs of the Teremakau bridge, who took suddenly ill at his work last week, and in consequence had to be removed to the Greymouth Hospital, is now well enough to leave the institution, and expects to be back at his work in the course of a day or so. GOOD WATER SUPPLY. The installation of the water from the spring at the Zig-Zag, to the Kumara Hospital is now an accomplished fact and should prove a boon to the institution. The credit for the work is due to Mr. Phillips, who it was that conceived the idea, of erecting a patent ram for the purpose. The hospital will now be able to discard the use of a large number of tanks, which were for ever incurring expense, not to mention the fact that a bountiful supply of pure spring water will always bo i available, even in the dryest weather. > BACK IN HARNESS. Master Bert Sutick, who wag unfortunate enough to break his collar bone while engaged at a game of football in Christcliureh sometime back, is well on the road to recovery, and expects to leave Kumara for the city of the plains in the course of a day or so, when he> will resume his studies at Christ's College'. TEREMAKAU BRIDGE. Work at Teremakau Bridge is now proceeding in a very satisfactory manner, and it should not be long before the cage over the break can be discarded. VISITOR DEPARTS. Mr. Hickey, brother-in-law of Mr. G. B. Gray, who arrived from California about o, fortnight, ago, left again on Tuesday morning for Queensland. Mr. Hickey, who intends to make his home in Kumara, expects to be absent for about two months. » MASONRY. It will be of interest to old Hokitikaites to learn that Mr. John Goulston, son of Mr. Michael Goulston, formerly draper of that town, enjoys the unique distinction of being the first member of the Jewish faith to be elected Deputy Grand Master of the New South Wales Grand Lodge of Freemasons. Mr. Goulston was born in Hokitika, and has a large circle of friends throughout New Zealand. BISHOP JULIUS. His Lordship Bishop Julius is now on the Coast, and is announced to celebrate 'Confirmation services at the Anglican Church on Sunday morning.
