BAND CONCERT.
IN AID OF. CITIZENS’ BAND. Quite varied mini entertaining programme was that submitted at the Opera. House last evening, on the ceca.sk;-n of the Citizens’ Band concert. Though the w* at!:or conditio-im were anything but propitious, there was a moderate attendance, the Jesuit of which should cause the bandsmen and their instrument fund a feeling of optimism. Tho programme was of a vocal and instrumental character. and was consequently well received. During the evening the De> puty-Mayor (Mr. W. IT. Parfitt) on behalf of the band, thanked the patrons of the entertainment, eulogising at the same time the band’s unselfish ness in its services to, the public The band had by its . good-naturea conduct and wide, public-spirited interest warranted the practical interest of the citizens, which was so aptly demonstrated that evening. (Applause.) He also on behalf of the band thanked Mr. T. Pollard who had generously given the use of the hall. The band, under the conductorship of Bandmaster E. Franklin, submitted the major portion of the entertainment, their treatment of -the various numbers allowing- of ample illustration of shrewd selection, assiduous practice, and artistic rendition. The Misses Watson and Ryan contributed some- syncopated music, ao companded by rather neatly executed dancing-, and were: accorded popular re-calls. All the other items were rendered in good taste and were in every instance deservedly encored. These were contribute! by Miss* Hanr.am (violin solo), Wells (song), Watson and Messrs. E. Franklin. T. Clark, A. Giffnoy (songs), and Atkinson (side drum solo). The accompaniments were played by Misses Higgins, Webster, and Ilopkinson. The entertainment concluded with the National Anthem, whereupon performers and audience alike participated in a pleasant dance at the Band Room. Mr. Hill acted asM.C. while the music, was supplemented by Miss Watson and Messrs Frank-
lin, F. Atkinson, and C. Quarterman.
