A largely-attended meeting* was held* last'night c to discuss the question of accelerating* the rate of progress of the Ulna funnel works. Among those present were representatives from most of the local Bodies in Canterbury, also from the West CoastThe meeting resolved to urge the Government and members of' Parliament that from motives of economy, an immediate attempt should i)e made at speeding up the finish of flu; Gt.ira tunnel and opening* the railway for traffic at the earliest possible moment, thus turning the Midland Railway from a heavy annual financial burden into a revenue-producing* concern. It was also resolved to urge the Government to iimmediately take in band the procuring of the necessary electric power for working the tunnel traffic.
