NELSON EDUCATION BOARD.
WEST COAST BUSINESS. [By Electric Telegraph—Special to "Star."] NELSON, This Day. A meeting of the Nelson Education Board was held yesterday, when the following West Coast business was transacted : An amended tender for the erection oT a school at Punaikaiki and an alternate proposal for the removal of the, present school at Brighton to Punaikaiki were ordered to he submitted to the Education Department. ' The Black's Point Committee's apn'rfcation for the erection of a new dividing fence was granted. The inspector referred to the school at Waitalm, which was sndlv in need of repairs, and suggested that arrangements he entered into in lieu thereof for the
conveyance of the children to the Reofton school, thereby closing the Waitahu school. Complaints were laid before the Board that several assistant teachers in the Motneka district had been absent on various occasions without leave. The Board decided to insist on all teachers being present every time the schools were opened, unless leave was granted, the head learners, to report immediatelv to the Board any transgression. It was resolved that ill (he future (he list of teacher vacancies ho onlv advertised in the newspapers and not forwarded to each school as at present. It was decided to open a household school at Murray Creek, the Board invitin" applications for a teacher. The secretary's report on (he proposal for the establishment of a, District High School at Wcsfoort and constituting n Technical Hmh S-hool in hen thereof was referred to (he West port School Committee.
