OMOTO CAMP.

VLSTEII DAY'S WORK. The Territorials in camp settled down io hard work yesterday. The clay was beautifully line, and the ground in good order- The officers were perfectly satisfied with the progress made- The evening lecture was delivered by LieutWebb- His subject was "Camp Discipline, Sanitation and Hygiene." . In the short space of n quarter of an hour the Lieutenant succeeded in conveying to the men a largo quantity of useful information regarding the best means of acquiring and maintaining physical fitness in healthy environment. His remarks were intensely practical and were well received, The after-dinner lecture in a territorial ramp invariably affords a splendid opportunity for a straight-out talk between officers and men and is always appreciated. The evening was devoted to music, singing, and recitations. Lieutenant Fletcher introduced a popular song named "Trentham," and taught the men how to sing the chorus. Mr. Short, the well-known commeT* cial traveller, was present and

contributed largely to the evening's entertainment by his songs and recitations, as did also Captain Carter and Lieutenant MoKenzio, the former by his recitation of further Indian experiences and the latter by his Scotch recitations- Captain Colclough and Corporal Leslie Chapman each contributed two songs, which were encored- Sergeant Mervyu Smith, with his usual ability, presided at the -piano- The NationalAnthem concluded a most enjoyable evening. This morning Colonel Chaffcy, Staff Officer for the Canterbury Division, paid a visit to the camp and expressed himself well pleased with all the .arrangements that had been made for the men's comfort and training- This afternoon the men marched in to Grcvmoufh to be present at the farewell to the 29th lieinforoemenls in the Town Kail.
