ANNUAL TRAINING CAMP.

COMMENCING FRIDAY NEXT

The annual training camp for “A’’ and "D” Companies of the North Canterbury; and West Coast Regiment will be held at Waitahu, about four miles distant from Reefton, commencing on Friday next., An advance party leave to-morrow morning to make the necessary preliminary arrangements. The camp will last for seven days this year instead of eleven days, as many industries are working short-handed. Special troop trains leave Greymouth on ■l'riday morning for north. The men from Hokitika and south will arrive in Greymouth in time to connect with the "special” leaving Greymouth at and arrive in camp at 1 p.m. The afternoon will be devoted to getting the men settled in their lines and in the evening a lecture will he given on camp routine, discipline and sanitation. The syllabus of training laid down by the Defence Department will commence at 6,30 a.m. -oiuthe following morning, and continue until 4.30 p.m. each day, followed by lectures each evening. Church parades will he held for the various denominations on Sunday. The Rand of the 13th Regiment is expected to arrive at camp from Rangiora. on Thursday next, and will be a distinct .advantage to the work in the camp. Though a great many applications have been received for exemption by- the officer commanding the Regiment, in every case leave has been granted from the ' Waitahu camp only, on the understanding that the applicants complete their training at the Omoio casual camp on the 26th April. Branches of the Rost am] Telegraph Army Service, Red Cross, and Ambulance Corps will, he m attendance at the camp. ' ■ Lieut. A. V. Williams, Adjutant of the Regiment, arrived from Christchurch on Saturday 1 night, and is completing the arrangements for the camp. There will he a dry canteen, a open at stated hours.Lieut. IT.
