LIME AND STATE FARM

(Our Correspondent.) - A largely attended meeting "of Farmers was hefcl in Young’s Hall, T’otara H hit, on Monday evening to appoint delegates to attend the conference of local bodies to b 6 held in'Greymouth on Friday next. The following resolution which .speaks for itself was put to the meeting and carried without a 1 dissentient; —'lltal Messrs- P. Kennedy, M. Mcara and P. C. Webb M.P., be appointed (re. sates, and it be an instruction to them to sound a vote of warning against opening up anything but the best available limestone.” , In speaking in the above motion three of the largest prospective lime buyers in the district made it very plain that they would not. take one ton of inferior material if they got it for nothing. One man stated that a few years back he had' drilled some of this local lime on - to sonic potato ground as a blight, preventive and when the potatoes were dug out the lime was found in solidified layers. Another matter of great interest to farmers and the public generally which was“ discussed was the proposal to have the State Farm for Westland established at Rotomanu. The delegates were instructed to oppose strongly this site as being most inconvenient for everyone on the Coast except a few within ♦bandy distance of the place-. The absence of a road and the unsuitable trains, would make it nearly-/as easy for people in the Buller, Inafigahija, and Grey Valley to visit the State Farm at Levin in the Nortli Island. Anywhere near the railway line between Inangahua Junction and Ross will suit the people of this district better but for (a-) central situation (b.) variety and (c.) cheapness of land the Government need not look many miles away from Tutara Flat.
