Captain Irwin has rejoined the Takapuna. Captain Peterson is to rejoin ihe Karamu at Lylteltcm in place of Captain Uvaii, who will go ashore for orders.

, The difficulties and attendant loss of doing the South Westland sea. service is exemplified by the present trip of the s.s. Jane. This little vessel left Hokitika on the 16th of last month and arrived at Okura the next day. and after discharging her cargo left for Bruce Bay and Okarito. As the weather was not promising and a number of passengers being on board for Okarito, the master decided to run for that port and return to 73ruce as soon as the sea and weather was more favouraide. 'Although 27 days have elapsed, th e vessel is still*in Okarito. .waiting a favourable opportunity to complete her trip. The southern ports and the open roadsteadUat Bruce. Bay. in the opinion Of all sea-faring men, can never be worked by any vessel except in favourable weather. The present; trip of the Jane is ojalv n repetition of what'.has occurred when the Waipa.ro'. Jane Douglas',";and other steamers performed the .seryice.
