WESTPORT HARBOUR BOARD.
ELECTION OF MEMBERS. [By Telegraph—Special to the Star.] WELLINGTON, This Lay. The Minister ot Marine has been asked by Mr. Colvin whether the Government intend this session'to amend the Westport Harbours Amendment Act, 19] 2, in regard to Section 2, Subsection 4. Although this section provides for the appointment of two members of the Westport Harbour Board by the electors of the borough of Westport, there is no provisj|m made in the Act for the duration of their term of office, as is provided* in Section 2, Subsection 6, in the case of members elected by the electoi-s of the county ot Buller. The Returning Officer in April, 1913. notified the Board that two members had been elected by the electors of the borough of Westport for a term of two years, but no election took place in April, 1915, it being held that Sub-section 6 of Section 2 applied to members elected by the electors of the borough of Westport, and that the members elected in 1913 remained in office uutnl the last Wednesday in April, 1917, whereas the sub-section in question apparently only applies to members elected by the electors of the county of Buller.
