GOVERNOR'S STRIKING TRIBUTE In the course of a letter which the Lord Provost of Edinburgh has received from the Governor of Newfoundland, thinking his Lordship for the extreme courtesy and sympthy which he had extended to the Newfoundland Regiment placed in garrison at Edin.-. burgh Castle the following paragraph, which will be of special interest to Irishmen as indicating the patriotic feeling'in the breasts of Irishmen in the far-flung reaches of the Empire, appears:—"The old stock of Newfoundland is mainly sprung from the west country seamen and from Irishmen of "Waterford and .County Wexford. I wish there -were more of us Scots among them, but I doubt if even Caledonia could better the breed."

Just landed a large shipment of gents' overcoats, bought at an exception ally low figure for cash. "These coats were made by the Kaiapoi Woollen Company of pure New Zealand wool, just suitable for the West Coast climate. Six all-wool Kaiapoi overcoats, 65s for 37s 6d, 70s for 455. We'have also twenty English tweed overcoaty reduced from 42s to 30s for cash at G, Smith, Ltd., the wholesale cash drapers, clothiers, boot importers and house furnishers, Greymputh and Wellington.—Mvfc.
