ST. JOHN'S MEN'S INSTITUTE.
WEEKLY MEETING.
The usual weekly meeting of the above Institute was held in the old church Last evening-, when there was a very good attendance- ... After the business had been dealt with, a set debate on the subject "Is Party Government a desirable system?" took place. Mr R. Tennent was leader of the affirmative and Mr Cairney leader of the negative. . Some good speeches were made, and a very interesting evening spent. When the question was put to the vote, the affirmative lost by one^vote. Friday next being set aside as an open evening, it was deeded to hold a mock Supreme Court trial. The leading parts were then, given out to several members present, and, as this should be a beneficial and interesting subject, all members are asked to attend.
