MELBOURNE, June 30.—The report of the Inspector of Inebriate Institutions says that the question of grocers' licenses requires careful consideration. Many inmates of the womens' institution suffered owing to the facility with which they obtained alcohol from grocers. He adds: "So far as the nation is concerned it seems t 0 me that our industrial efficiency is endangered by the workers' morning drink, be he labourer, merchant, or professional man." He suggests that hotels be not opened before noon. QUEENSLAND STOCK RETURNS. BRISBANE. June 30.—The official stock returns on January Ist last showed the' number of horses in Queensland to be 743,050, an increase of 35,794; cattle 5,455,043, an increase of 153,010; sheep 23,129,919, an increase of 1,343,319; pigs, 116,633, an increase of 26,508. MEAT EXPORT. SYDNEY, This Day.—The State meat export season lias closed. The mutton exports increased by 401,667 carcases but beef declined by 13,811 quarters.
