From Treasury Department,, advising ordinary payments, goldfields revenue, and royalties on timber and progress payments on works.—Received.. From Minister of Finance, with reference Jto New Zealand's contributions ,to the < various relief funds, .advising that his Excellency the Governor had received word tfiat a National Relief Committee had been formed in London for relief of the Belgians, and suggesting that all contributions should be sent to this neutral, committee for distribution.—Received. From Mines Department in regard to prospecting subsidy applied for by W. J. Mitchell, stating that a subsidy of £SO had been granted.—Received. From Public Works Department in regard to consent of local authority under Section 11 of the. Land Act, 1908, iu respect of closing. streets and roads, and stating in particular the. nature of the resolution required to be passed in such cases.—Received. From Public Works Department in regard to Nelson, Buller, lnangahua; Grey and Hokitika main road, staling that the Council's representations had been noted and the Government was giving its at tention to the matter. —Received, From Public Works epartment in regard to Kotuku-Bell Hill road, stating a grant tor this work would be considered when preparing the Estimates. —Received. From 1. E. Y. Seddon, M.P., in regard to maintenance of main roads and forwarding copy of -Minister's reply.—Re- ', ceived. From acting-District Railway Engineer, • in regard to Council's share of expense in construction of cattle-stops at Lamerons. —Received, the Clerk reporting that , £l7 had been, paid in this connection. ( From Auditor-General, returning the , County balance-sheet, for half-year ended . September 30th, 1914, certified as correct J with the exception of a sum of £l6 12s j 4d spent in regard to entertaining Minister of Railways.—Received. Eight-applications for sla'nghter-honso ( licenses were received and recommended j to the Minister for approval. ] From W. R. McDonald, honorary fire j inspector, and others in regard to a Pre at .Blackball, resulting in the total destruction of P. Rodgers' business stocks and building owned by Mr J. Irvine. • Other properties were endangered, but i willing hands saved them. The buildings t were well insured, and the petitioners ) pointed out that the efforts of the public : were attended with injuries to two inincrs, incapacitating them from work, and asked the Council to approach the iiisur- -j ance companies to recompense the injured _ men at the rate of 12s per day during the time they were incapacitated. A doctor's i certificate stated that one of the injured <

men sprained his left ankle and the other sprained his hack through falling from a. ladder, one being off work three or four weeks and the other one week. Cr Irvine moved that the claims be sent on to the Insurance Companies' Association with a recommendation for'favourable consideration. —Seconded by Cr Rvall and carried.

Frm T>. W. Ross, Runanga, asking permission to construct tram across road.— Received" and granted subject to approval of Engineer.

From F. W. Campbell, Totara Flat, in regard to obtaining a Government errant of £IOO for Each Road at Totara Flat,--Received.

Cr Baybutt moved that the request b< granted.—Seconded l.iv Cr Larkin. Cr Ryall moved that a. former resolution in regard to this road be adhered to, —Seconded by Cr Irvine. The amendment was carried.

From Secretary of Counties ' Association, applying for annual subscription of £3 3s, the subscription being based on the. net capital value of districts. —Received,• arid Clerk instructed to pay the amount. From YV. R. Coburn, Marsden, applying for payment lor work done in clearing and fixing culverts o.u Irishman's track, which had been closed for some years, it took-him six days to do the. work.—Received. Cr Finn said the track was not one of importance; very few people lived there, and lie knew nothing ot the work having been done. Cr Ryall moved that the claim be not entertained, as the work had not been authorised. —Seconded by tii c Chairman and carried. From Receiver of Land Revenue, torwarding cheque for £6 19s 6d, royalty on sleepers cut from rnniiug property.—Received, the Clerk stating that this was the first revenue received under the above heading. From Greynlouth Fire Board, forwarding Kennedy Bros.' account for £2 2s, expenditure incurred in, connection Willi tlu; recent fire at Cobden. —Received,' and resolved that the account be paid. From general manager of Wesllaiid Saw-milling Company, asking for permission to iay tramway across old Marsden road. —Received and permission granted, subject to Engineer's approval. From Golden Terrace Alining Company, asking permission to lay pipe line across Marsden-Dunganville road, and guaranteeing to carry out the work to the satisfaction of the Council's Engineer.—Received Olid- request granted, on motion of Cr , Finn, seconded by Cr Blair. From William Fisher, Ndson Creek, applying for permission to erect a swinggate across Nelson Creek-Bell Hill road, near his claim.—Received and adjourned till next meeting, subject to proof of requisite advertising. From Cobden residents, offering services as a Fire Brigade for the Cobden district. —deceived. - Cr Ryall moved that the names submitted be approved.—Seconded by Cr Finn and carried. GENERAL. A formal resolution in connection with the bank overdraft was passed. Resolved that the Chairman and I r Bavbutt sign deeds in regard to taking of lands for Big River road (deviation), Cr McCarthy moved that £ls be voted towards repairing the track from Bell Hill junction to Kopara Lake.—Seconded by Cr Bavbutt and carried. Cf Ryall moved that .a lamp be erected at the 'junction of Newcastle Street and Nelson Quay, Cobden.— Seconded by Cr McCarthy and carried. ' Cr Ryall moved that the Engineer be instructed to cut'a drain from Section 116 to Section 126, Bright Street, Cobden.— Seconded by the Chairman and carried.
