ELECTION UPSET

A ptition alleging certain irregularities in the election of two members to the Lyttelton Harbour Board to represent the combined districts of the counties of Paparuu, Tawera, Malvern Springs, Ellesmere, Halswell, Heathcote and Selwyn. and the borough of Spreydon formed the subject of an inquiry held by Mv. T.'A. Bailey,, S.M., I o-day. The election was held on April 29th, and the Returning Officer declared Messrs Thomas Dewar Boag and James Storrv duly elected, and ihe voting was »s follows:—T I). Boag 834, J. Storrv 326, D. Sykes 821. and J. Reynolds 588. The petition set out that in view of the fact that the votes cast for.J. Storrv exceeded those for I). Rvkes merely by five, even without disallowing any improperly allowed to James Storrv! the result'of the election was materially affected by irregularities and the petitioners prayed it might, be determined thai I). Sykes was duly "lected instead of James Storrv, or in the alternative lliai the election was void.
