LAKE BRUNNEK AQUATICS. (Our Own Correspondent). Local interest in aquatics has boon well maintained timing the season, and the in-ter-club matches (arranged between Te Kinga and Moana have proved a great eiiccess.

Results in the point-to-point Hatty skiff match stand to date:—First day: Whitten 1, Manson 2, K. Dense 3. Second dav: C. Smith 1, .Manson 2, Whitten 3. Third day: Whitten 1. This match is being rowed off at Cashmere Bay, Te Kinga; the fust prize is a goia medal (presented by a. wellknown Te Kinga sport), second, a trophy, third a cash prize. The pair-oared race, Thompson and Kennar versus'Mc-Alister and Dense, takes place shortly. A change has beer, made in the ownership of i\\c "Ariki," Mr. Fox having purchased her from Mr. H. Dense. The Annual Smoke Concert of the boating fraternity was held in the Seddon Hall, Moana, last Friday, when there was a good attendance. Mr. J. Williams was voted to the chair, and proceedings went with a swing, a most enjoyable evening being spent by all. Opportunity was taken to hand over to the winners the various trophies competed for in the recent matches. During the course of the evening a pleasant surprise was sprung on the chairman, when he was asked accept a gold-mounted cigarette holder and case as a mark of appreciation of Ins services to the boating community. FASTER HOLIDAYS. The Easter holidays passed off quietly in this vicinity and very few people availed themselves of the opportunity to seek a change of scene. Heavy rain fell during Easter, and the Lake, which during the recent "dry spell" had fallen very low, rapidly rose, making, it was noticed, 2 fe'et 6 inches in fourteen hours. CHOPPING. Recently several chopping matches created quite a lot of interest in the neighbourhood. On tha 4th inst. an open match at Te Kinga for a gold medal, pres ented by a local sport, was won by Mr. J. Hardy,'of Moana. The Challenge match between Messrs Fox and Thompson resulted in a win for the latter. Another challenge match, P. Dense and J. Kennar, was won by the latter. 15-inch log in all three events. On the 11th inst. a 15-inch anderhaTid chop at Moana for a trophy (a, silver watch presented hy a well-known sport) and sweepstake, was won by Mr. Bert Thompson, closely followed by Mr. Fred. Murray, Mr. F. Snow third. METEOROLOGICAL. The local observer reports the rainfall for the month of March as 3.26 inches, ,'ain having fallen on eight days, the heaviest fall being 1.30 inches on the 30th. MEASLES EPIDEMIC. The measles epidemic has reached this .ocality and several cases of a milder natire have been reported. VALEDICTORY.

Last Tuesday (14th inst) the many friends of .Air. Wallingford (Watty) Marshall tendered him a smoke concert at the aeddon Hall, Moana, on the eve of his joining the" ranks of the benedicts. Mr. E. Penhalluriack occupied the chair, and Kept things moving. The usual toasts ,ver« honoured and songs a \d recitations rendered by the eompniy, In the course if the evening Air. Marshall was present'.d with a saver tea and coffee service, i,nd a silver biscuit barrel on behalf of ,iis many friends in the Lake Brunner tistiict. MOANA-RURU SCHOOLS. The annual presentation of prizes in jonnectkm with the above schools took place in the respective school-houses durtng the curent week;' at Ruru on Monday and Moana on Tuesday, and despite .nclemcnt weather the children,! as is natural, rolled up well.
