PHASES OF THE MOON.—

THE SUN. The sun sets to-day at 7.38 p.m,, and rises at 4.21 a.in. to-morrow. ' THE MOON. The moon set at 2.55 p.m, to-day, and rises at 1.6 a.m. to-morrow. LOCAL REPORT. The maximum temperature recorded yesterday was 74 degrees, and the minimum for file night was 56 degres. At 9 o’clock this morning the barometer registered 50.C4 degrees, and the thermometer 59 degrees. For the 11 months ending November 30 the rainfall was 87.53 in, rai having fallen on 183 days. During the present month rain has fallen on 11 days, the total being 4.80 in.. WEATHER REPORTS. Westport.—Wind, north-west, light; barometer, 30.03; thermometer, 60 ; tides, moderate; bar, smooth. Last evening the Dominion Meteorologist telegraphed the following weather summary : —“ Southerly gales were experienced on Saturday, with cold, squally, and showery weather. Conditions have since considerably improved, although squally and showery weather has continued in many districts. Present indications are for a temporary increase in the atmospheric pressure, but a westerly disturbance is likely to succeed shortly, and the present outlook for Chritsmastide is not reassuring.”

Mr D. C. Bates telegraphed at noon today as follows: “A storm appears to be approaching from the west, and there is every prospect of bad weather. The indications are for northerly winds, strong to gale, and increasing haze and cloudiness. Heavy rain is to be expected ; barometer falling fast after about 10 hours; sea heavy and tides good.”
