INANGAHUA COUNTY COUNCIL

ORDINARY MEETING.

The ordinary meeting of the above was held at the Council Chambers, Reefton, on Thursday, when there were present: Crs Betts (Chairman), Irving, Dunn, Scantlehury O’Regan, McTnroe, and Bannan. - ’ , CORRESPONDENCE.

From Dr Scott, drawing attention to the bad state of the road from Farrell’s hotel to Mai Mai. Moved by Cr Mclnroe, seconded by Cr Bannan, that the Engineer be authorised to have the road repaired, also the road over the by-wash.—Carried. From B. Saraty, pointing out dangerous state of footbridge over Snowy Greek at Hnkawai. Moved by Cr Bannan, seconded by Cr Mclnroe, and carried, that the Engineer be empowered to make the requisite accommodation for crossing Snowy Creek.

From- Mrs Enwvight, in regard to removal from Strand Reserve. Moved by Cr Irving, seconded by Cr Scantlebnry, and carried, that a small piece of land be leased to Mrs Enright on conditions applicable to the circumstances.

From H. P. Lawry, Seretary of Blackwater Syndicate, in regard to aid to prospecting. On the motion of Cr Irving, seconded by Cr Bannan, the application for assistance was recommended for grant by the Minister.

From J, Sigley, in regard to timber for Reefton bridge. Resolved that the Engineer he instructed to notify Sigley’s sureties that the completion of the Reefton traffic bridge mus he proceeded with at once, and also to notify Sigley that the required timber has now arrived. From Lands and Survey Department, in regard to section acquired for Drill Shed, and forwarding plan of same. It was resolved to notify the Commissioner of Crown Lands to require that the proposed Drill Shed when erected he kept clear of the road and not to permit any-encroach-ment on same.

On the motion of Cr Betts, seconded by Cr Scantlebnry, the Engineer was authorised to construct a small portion of road at Murray Creek.

On the motion of Cr Irving, seconded by Cr Bannan, Cm Engineer was instructed to again notify Mr Thomson as to clearing blackberries, etc., from bis land at Inangahna Junction. The Engineer was instructed to have repairs effected to road at Merrijigs to an amount not exceeding the £lB already authorised.

The officers’ reports were read and received. Moved by Cr Irving, seconded by Cr Mclnroe, and carried, that wherever iron girders can be used they should be brought into requisition. The sum o' £25 was voted to Wisbey and Lemon aa an extra for improving the grades on Hukarere-Blackwater road. Moved by Cr Scantlebnry, ■ seconded by Cr Irving, and carried, that the sum of £IOO be spent on Globe Hill Domain. Moved by Cr Dunn, seconded by Cr McInroo, that 500 yards of broken metal be supplied to the Public Works Department on their providing the cartage. Moved by Cr Irving, seconded by Cr Dunn; and carried, that the Engineer be instructed to attend to the strees and drains in he town.

Moved by Cr Dunn, seconded by Cr Mclnroe, and carried, that the Government be requested to constitute a Board of the Inangahna and Murchison County Councils to control the Maruia Springs and Reserves.

The tender of J. Turner for erection of bridge over Murray Crock at £ll4 IBs was accepted.

Moved by Cr Irving, seconded by Cr Dunn, and carried, that casual labor be employed for the balance of the year in carting gravel for Reefton streets. Resolved that C. Cameron be notified that he must carry out his contract for streets at Waiuta withou delay. The accounts were passed for payment and the business closed.
