A POPULAR BOXER

TIM: TRACEY’S RETIREMENT,

No more populaV boxer has ever entered the ring in New Zealand than Tim Tracey, the well-known light-weight and welter weight champion. Some time ago he had the: misfortune to break his' ami, and although the injury has not permanently disabled the arm, it has rendered him incapable of again taking part in a contest in the ring. This intelligence all lovers of the manly art will learn with regret, for no cleaner boxer-’ and better sport ever entered the ring than “Tim,” and the presence of such as he has done much to lift the pastime of boxing into the high estimation it is held in New Zealand.

Mr F. W. Keddell, secretary of the West Coast Boxing Association, has just received the following -letter from Tim, announcing -his retirement and thanking the Association for past favours; —‘‘Dear Sir, —The experience of my last two contests, particuarly the- last with Maxwell, has convinced me that the injury to my arm is, so far as boxing is concerned, a permanent one, and I have, therefore, decided to take no further part in boxing contests. Before formally severing ray connection with the sport, I want to tell you and your Association how much 1 appreciate the kindness and consideration shown me, and I feel that I ought to testify to the fairness and liberality of your Association. On my own behalf 1 can only claim that I always did my best in the ring and otherwise tried, to avoid anything to discredit boxing. With very best wishes, I amp dear Sir, yours truly, Tim Tracey, Wellington, June 16th, 1912.
