POLLARD'S PICTURES

In the new all-star programme to be screened by Mr Pollard at (he Opera House to-night, there are several dramas of more than us pal interest. One of •them, “Paid in his own coin,” is a very strong picture story. It deals with a young lady who in crossing a railroad track is run over. The gate being open, it is a clear case, of neglect on the part of the railway people. . She sues for damages, her own lawypr being her fiancee. The lawyer for the defence makes friends with the young lady, and when she is convalescent lie takes her out for drives and to a ball. When the case comes on she is non-suited, as it is claimed that she is not permanently injured. When she finally recovers she meets the tricky lawyer, and plays him so that he falls violently in love with her. When she lias him almost crazy she turns him down and marries her old lover. Another powerful drama is entitled “A Surgeon’s Heroism.” It is the story of two strong men in love with the same girl. A serious accident to one brings the other, a doctor, to operate on his wounded rival. Jealousy at first tempts the doctor not to operate, but his better nature prevails and he saves his successful rival’s life. The rest of the programme is as follows: “Australian Gazette,” topical; “The Little Widow,” drama; “Deacon Debbs,” a screaming comic; “The Ventriloquist’s Trunk,” a new Bunnyism; and “Stage-struck Lizzie,” a new. vitagraph comedy. The permanent orchestra will be heard in several now selections.
