WESTLAND ENGINE DRIVERS.

[TO THE EDITOR.]

Sir, —Were it not that many think that silence gives consent, I should not condescend to notice Mr Latimer’s letter, which apeared in your Saturday s issue. However, notwithstanding his denial, the facts are as given by me to your reporter. U a small meeting it was decided by a two vote majority that I resign, and being thoroughly disgusted with the obstructive tactics pursued by a few. I despite the fact that the whole body of the Union had not been consulted, did so, and on Saturday evening, in defiance of all rules, Messrs Latimer and friends voted themselves into the positions vacated by Mr Jackson and myself. Well knowing that the greater hulk of the members who being scattered over the Coast cannot get to the meetings, would uphold my actions, they are afraid to take a general ballot on the question, hut as the annual election of officers comes on next month I have no doubt that members will express their opinion of the high-handed manner in which things have been conducted by a few, and will doubtless take Mr Latimer at his own valuation of £2 iier week. The w hole thing is simply a struggle between those who like myself believe in the principles of conciliation and arbitration as oposed to those of revolutionary socialism. Yours, etc., — GEO. R. WYLDE.
