The High Commissioner’s cable of London, dated December 2nd (Note —Quotations unless otherwise specified are for average market prices on spot) is as fcMows:— Mutton.—The stocks of mutton on hand are light and firmly held in a few. ’hands. There is a dull sale of till qualities, the quantity going into consumption at present being very small. Canterbury, 4 3-8 d; North Island, 4 l-Bd.
Lamb.—There is a better tone in the market this week. There is a limited demand, but stocks are small. Supplies of Canterbury are nearly exhausted. Can--1 erbury s|d; other than Canterbury, 4 7-Bd. *
Beef.—The market is quiet, but firm at an advance. New Zealand hinds 4 5-8 d; New Zealand fores 2 5-Bd. Pork.—The market is weak and inactive at 4^d. Butter.—Tire market is firm. Buyers are more reserved on account of the high prices. The value to-day Is for all descriptions at about the quotation already given, viz., New Zealand 1325; Australian, 1295; Danish, 1375; Siberian, 1255; Argentina, 130 s. ' The shipment of butter ex s.s. Rotorua, arrived in good condition.
Cheese.—The market is quiet, but firm. The shipment of cheese ex s.s. Rotorua arrived in good condition. The average pr.ee for the week for the finest New Zealand cheese per cwt is from 68s to 695; Canadian, 70s. Hemp.—The market is quiet, biit steady. New Zealand good fair grade, on spot, per ton, £l9 15s; fair current Manila, £2O. Forward shipments—New Zealand good fair £2O; fair grade, £l9 ss. fair current Manila, £2O ss. The output from Manila for the week was 20 000 bales.
